...and when we speak
we are afraid our words will not be heard nor welcomed
but when we are silent
we are still afraid
So it is better to speak

BRN GRL (n.) a girl, woman, or femme of color who lives life passionately and unapologetically.

SPK (v.) to express one’s feelings or opinions frankly and publicly. (see also: to refuse to be silenced; to celebrate one’s self; to stand tall; to tell it like it is.)

Our Mission

BRN GRL SPK (Brown Girl Speak) is an NYC-based creative arts collective that hosts events where women and femmes of color can express themselves while raising money for important causes in our community.

Our goal is to curate spaces where we can create, perform, dance, laugh, write, and resist. Our events benefit organizations dedicated to preserving the health, culture, education, and spirit of brown and black people everywhere.

Our Focus

1. Creating spaces and platforms for BRN GRLs to express themselves creatively through performance, written word, visual art, and more.

2. Building community by uplifting, unifying, and empowering BRN GRLs to love themselves in a world that doesn’t always love them back.

3. Giving back to organizations that dedicate their time to creating change for brown and black people and preserving their health, culture, education, and spirit.
